District Collector B. Sreedhar has asked all district officials to put off all new development programs and inaugurations as model code of conduct came into force following the announcement of elections in Kovur.



Addressing district leaders in Jubilee Hall here on Saturday, he said that the Election Code applies to the entire district until March 25. He told them to avoid all meetings and attend reviews with representatives of the people, until the code is in force. Technical managers were told to stop giving penalties for new works. He said the government guest houses should be allocated for 48 hours for the people's representatives and ministers, but political meetings should not be allowed in them.


He said that government officials should not meet with representatives of the people in guesthouses. He ordered them to remove the belt shops and keep a tab on the distribution of alcohol and money to voters by political parties to woo them. He stressed the need to control the vehicle to prevent the mobilization of cash and liquor. He argued that the vehicles both private and public will be subject to controls.


Mr. Sreedhar ordered officials to remove posters and flexible panels of representatives of the people throughout the district and government offices also. He said that measures will be taken against those violating the electoral code. He said plans to establish a committee to monitor the media paid items. He said the committee will identify these items and will be debited from the account of election expenses of the respective candidates.


Mr. Sreedhar e-em reminded to avoid holding meetings in public schools and local government-owned. Permission from officials is a must for public meetings.


Political parties will be allowed to campaign betwe-in 18 hours and 10 am, he added. He called on officials to hold meetings with officials at the cabins, in coordination with the returning officers to hold the election transparent.
