భారీ వర్షాలు నెల్లూరు జిల్లా

Rains continued to batter PSR Nellore district without a break and the incessant rains led nearly 300 villages isolated from the other parts of the district and 200 of them are under a sheet of water.

Gudur and Kavali divisions have faced the wrath of the un-relented rains. Trains operating between Gudur and Tirupati are running behind schedule to the extent of one to three hours because of water overflow on the railway track near Yellakaru railway station located between Kalahasthi and Venkatagiri.

Traffic movement remained cut off between Gudur and Saidapuram for the second day owing to heavy floods to Kaivalya river. Farmers themselves have managed to arrest a breach to Kondapuram tank. Threat symptoms are looming large for several tanks in Kavali division especially the tanks at Bogole and Jaladanki mandals.

Several villages located in the banks of Beeraperu and Boggeru streams in Atmakur, Sangam and AS Peta mandals have been inundated.

An 80-year-old man, Polaiah of AS peta mandal was rescued by fishermen nearly three hours after he was washed away in Kommaleru stream. Fishermen spotted him holding a tree in the down stream to save himself from swirling waters.

Three women were injured when a thatched house gave in at Manubolu.

Senior revenue officials have been monitoring the situation and they have already sounded an alert after weather forecast indicated further rains.

Speaking to this newspaper, district collector, Mr K. Ramgopal, said that traffic is not being allowed on 14 main roads because of overflowing of water and weak causeways. He added that they are taking up repair works on war footing.

Reacting to a question on in accessible villages, he said that there is alternative road to all such villages except for Mungamur in Kavali mandal. He said that traffic movement to the village was restricted because of a weak bridge.

He informed that they have established control rooms in all the divisional offices and at the district collectorate.
